Portable speakers seem to be in. My review of the X-mini Capsule speakers caught the attention of a lot of readers, and my inbox is inundated with mail asking if there are any more where this came from. The good news is, yes! I've been busy scouring the streets of Mumbai, and over the next couple of months you can expect at least one portable speaker review every week.
Today we shall look at the iDuo Hamburger speakers, which are most definitely Chinese, but ingenious nevertheless. It picks up where X-mini’s story ends: stereo sound. For those who have been wondering if monaural is really the way the go, I would say the iDuo come highly recommended for those stereo sounds.
One of the speakers, which also features the volume dial, comes with a 3.5mm jack. This is where you put one end of the EP cable, while the other end goes into your MP3 player/laptop.
Coming to the sound, it’s astonishing how the iDuo sounds similar to the X-mini, except it's stereo. The capability of the iDuo in handling high volume sets it apart though. I cranked it up and it wouldn’t jar! This would, however, depend on the quality and genre of your songs.
Once you wind the speakers up, you get a much improved bass response. The highs are quite overpowering, but far from annoying. The price? Rs 1500, which is decent for a portable product. I would suggest you test the speakers before you buy. I'm told there are quite a few fakes in the market. You've been warned!
